Orthodontics

Our orthodontists are dentists whose area of focus is in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial problems. The purpose of orthodontics is to treat malocclusion by using braces, aligners, or corrective surgical procedures to straighten teeth and correct jaw alignment.

Malocclusions are often caused by irregularities in the teeth and by disproportionate relationships between the jaws. As well as causing aesthetic concerns that can lead people to become embarrassed about their smile, orthodontic problems can also affect how people bite and chew their food, and can cause difficulties with cleaning the teeth, increasing the risk of other dental health problems such as gum disease and tooth decay.

The best time to start treatment will vary from patient to patient. However, we recommend that children should visit an orthodontist for an initial assessment between the ages of 7 and 9, so that any necessary treatment can be started as soon as possible.

An increasing number of adults who missed out on orthodontic treatment when younger is also seeking treatment later in life.

Lingual Braces

Think braces and most people picture metal wire and bracket contraptions. However, at Emicare we offer a wide range of traditional and discreet teeth straightening systems.

These include:

Lingual braces act in the same way as regular braces, using brackets and wires to gently reposition the teeth. The main difference, however, is that they are placed on the back of the teeth, so they are not immediately obvious.

Porcelain Braces

Porcelain braces are tooth-coloured brackets which have proven to be very popular with most of our adult clients as it provides a more discreet alternative to a mouth full of metal and can achieve great results even in more complex treatments.

Sometimes known as invisible braces these clear aligners gently move the teeth into their desired position. Unlike standard braces, Invisalign is removable by the patient, meaning you can take it out to eat, drink and clean your teeth. Each series of aligners is custom-made to exactly fit your mouth, and you will need to replace the aligner every few weeks as your teeth move.

Invisalign can be a quick fix and it can also be highly effective in some complex cases with the right patient who wears it well.

Invisalign

There is a solution to having straighter teeth without having to wear metal braces. Known as invisible braces. Emicare offer this type of treatment to our patients, giving them the choice of wearing a clear and sometimes removable appliance while straightening and aligning their teeth.

Invisalign is often a popular option for professional adults with careers and don't feel comfortable wearing unsightly 'train track' conventional braces for a long period of time. The technology behind invisible braces is highly advanced and often gives patients a reduced treatment time, depending on their individual case.

The benefits of invisible braces include having teeth straightened in a generally shortened period, straighter teeth and alignment of your top and bottom jaws. You can also enjoy the flexibility of your braces being hidden from an untrained eye, making you feel less self-conscious when socialising or speaking in public. Invisalign has removable devices, so you can also take them out to eat or for special occasions, meaning they fit around your lifestyle.

When patients speak to our Specialist Orthodontists at Emicare, they are also often hoping to improve their oral health. Using Invisalign braces, and other teeth straightening methods are great for this, remember that straighter teeth are healthier teeth.

When your bite is properly aligned and your teeth are straightened, there are less gaps and areas for food to get trapped and plaque to build up on the teeth, causing decay. In that sense, invisible braces like Invisalign are a long-term investment in your oral health.
